When deciding on a tank, keep in mind the weight of the tank and how many fish you can have. With freshwater, most fish will run 1"-2", so you can estimate the number of fish you would have. With most larger tanks, a stand is important to balance the weight. Especially since most furniture cannot handle the extreme weight of a fish tank.
For tanks other than listed here, a good weight approximation is 12lbs per gallon. For fish, it is an inch of fish per gallon for freshwater, or a little less than half that for salt water.
Please be sure to check out Aqueon, one of the most common tank manufacturers for more details and additional types of aquariums. All of the information on this page is from their website (formerly All-Glass Aquariums at the time this information was gathered). [Top]
